As a Certified Part §107 drone pilot, and I teach in terms YOU can understand and relate to. I teach understanding, because understanding is the key to knowledge, and knowledge is the foundation of safety. When you see some material summarized, restated or repeated, that is the reason.
I’m certified as a Public Safety instructor by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and I passed the FAA’s Fundamentals of Instruction as well. I also passed the student pilot Ground School exam.
Part 107 test changes
New questions: If you’re taking the initial Remote Pilot knowledge test (meaning it’ll be your first time taking the Part 107 test to earn a Remote Pilot certificate), expect to now see a question (or several) involving flying drones at night. Specifically, the test will address aspects of nighttime flying, including:
- Collision avoidance with other aircraft
- Limited depth perception and difficulty of perceiving reference points during night operations
- Night physiology
- Lighting requirements
- Night illusions from the perspective of the remote pilot
For initial certification testing, more in-person testing sites are being added. You can schedule online with PSI at faa.psiexams.com/faa/login or by calling then at 1-800-211-2754 then menu #2(professional tests) then ask the operator for FAA or leave a message for FAA and you will receive a return call within 24hrs.

The video portion runs just over two hours, plus the various quizzes and final exams. You will need to devote additional time to reviewing the references, resource materials and downloads. The on-site presentation of this course requires one day or about 8 hours.
This course is also intended for Public Safety personnel, both sworn and non-sworn,who are interested in obtaining FAA Remote Pilot Certification or heads of agencies who need to train personnel to an equivalent level as required under a COA/Waiver.
The actual FAA Exam is not included in the course and must be scheduled and paid for through CATS/PRI to be taken at a local or nearby authorized testing agency (CATS/PRI). Information about that portion of the process is detailed in the final video or at FAA PSI EXAMS.
The FAA lists specific subject areas which the UAV operator should know to prepare for the Remote Pilot Certification exam, as described in section §107.73 for “initial and recurrent knowledge tests” and in FAA-S-ACS-10, the Remote Pilot Small UAS Airman Certification Standards.

This course contains 13 video lessons plus a bonus chapter on the licensing process, running over two and a half hours in all, regularly updated, with the essential information you will need to pass the test. You can play the course as many times as you like. Feel free to pause or repeat any sections that are not clear.
NOTE: As of January 13th, 2020, prior to taking the Unmanned Aircraft General Knowledge Exam, all applicants must establish an FAA Tracking Number (FTN) within IACRA. The FAA implemented this change so that they can “better track an airman consistently through their entire certification process and collect better data to support risk-based decision-making.”

Public employees seeking to earn training credit may submit the syllabus to their training officer for approval. The instructor is certified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and provides on-site instruction in many states around the U.S. .

FAA has said that preparation for the Part §107 exam should take 20 hours of study. Using this video course and reviewing the study and reference materials this video course can provide the basic framework and resources you need to complete that preparation in half that time, and pass the test. You should not expect to watch this video course and immediately pass the FAA exam any more than you can watch a James Bond movie and expect to go to work for the CIA. The FAA exam is designed to test understanding, not memorization. The FAA has stated that it should take up to 20 hours of study to gain the knowledge necessary to pass the Remote Pilot Certification (UAG) exam and safely operate a UAV. This video course comprises the first two hours of that study. By focusing your attention on the most important parts this course could help you reduce that time to 10 hours. You can’t ride a bike by reading a book and you can’t learn how to read aeronautical charts or METARS without just doing it more than once. Understanding requires study. There are quite a few courses teaching for the Remote Pilot Certification. Do not restrict yourself to this course alone. By all means, take advantage of as many as you can find and afford, and be sure to review the resources and references. Knowledge is the foundation of safety, and study is the building block of knowledge.
Some Remote Pilot Certification courses claim to have “Real FAA test questions”. The FAA DOES NOT make test questions public or provide them to any training providers. Why? The FAA wants pilots to learn by UNDERSTANDING, not MEMORIZING. The FAA does provide a SAMPLE exam.The questions are TYPICAL but they are NOT the “real” test questions. If you understand HOW to answer them you should succeed on the FAA exam. This course will take you through the sample test and explain the answers.

This course is really just what I needed. I've been a private pilot for about 25 years, and I wanted to add the Part 107 ticket to my license. I bought the course and the associated study guide book. After I finished the online course, I used the book as a guide to shore things up. I also used the 70 or so page FAA study guide which is free. With all of those, and with some additional work on the new regs for night flying and flying over people and flying from vehicles, I was definitely ready. I spent about 20 hours studying, of course I watched several of the YouTube videos. By the time I went in for the test, I had enough practice to feel pretty confident. After I got through 10, then 20 of the 60 questions, I realized that all of the material and all of the prep questions in this course (and a few others) were all I needed. Tim (the author and professor) is super helpful by email, support is TOP NOTCH, so I really can't recommend this course enough!
